Parish Ministry
Catechism of the Catholic Church (Art. No. 874) says "Christ is himself the source of ministry in the Church. He instituted the Church. He gave her authority and mission, orientation, and a goal. In order to shepherd the People of God and to increase its numbers without ceasing, Christ the Lord set up in his Church a variety of offices that aim at the good of the whole body. The holders of office, who are invested with sacred power, are, in fact, dedicated to promoting the interests of their brethren, so that all who belong to the People of God . . . may attain to salvation."
MSFS parish mission preaching draws its inspiration, content, and methodology from the way Fr Mermier conducted parish preaching missions adapted to our times marked with signs of indifference due to the onslaught of secularism, individualism, and relativism of the modern world. Ever since the arrival of MSFS in Northeast India, MSFS has been engaged in the renewal of faith by establishing parishes and renewal centres. Parishes were established to cater to the spiritual needs of the people. MSFS has contributed to the growth of evangelization in North East India thanks to the tireless effort of many of our missionaries. Following the mind of our Founder, Fr. Peter Mermier, MSFS fathers willingly chose to work in many parishes located in the remotest parts of Northeast India.
Even today, Parish Ministry is at the core of MSFS apostolates. Every parish community run by the MSFS congregation is enlivened by conducting various programmes like annual retreats, camps, seminars, formation of the youth, self-help groups, prayer units, parish feasts etc. We find people thirsting for a rich Christ experience. Whenever the Word of God is proclaimed, we find People irrespective of tribe, language, religious denominations flocking to the churches. Our weapons are spiritual and God will give our words the power in proclaiming the gospel.
