THE HOLY ROSARY PARISH, BASAR

THE HOLY ROSARY PARISH, BASAR

The Holy Rosary Parish was established in April 2005. In 2005, Fr Lukose Kavunkal was appointed to begin the Mission at Basar. He stayed in the house of Mr Gumrik Basar, engaging himself in caring for the catholics in Basar Town and surrounding villages and at the same time building up the school and mission. The centre, permanently entrusted to the MSFS, is situated at Gori village, one kilometer away from town. At the time of his arrival, there were only 10 catholic families in Basar area. This has grown up to 40 at present. Besides, there are Catholics in 13 villages. As of now, there are close to 1000 faithful from 125 families, spread out in 13 villages and Basar town. Besides Basar town, the villages with Catholic population are: Dali, Kamdak, Kamdak II, Pagi, Lipunamchi, Nyorak, Sododoke, Gadimeshi, Angu, Liromoba, Kapen, Kayi, and Ligo. Before the establishment of Basar parish, the spiritual needs of the people of these villages were cared by Kaying Parish. After the establishment of Likaballi Parish in 2014, some villages of the Parish went with Likaballi Parish. The parish church was built and inaugurated in 2007.
