MSFS NOVITIATE: CHABUA

In 1989, a minor seminary was started for the Province at Thamaraserry, Kerala. When the first batch from the seminary completed their formation in 1992 they were brought to SFS Seminary, Medziphema, for their novitiate and Fr Jose Mundoly (1992-1995) was the Novice Master. However, Medziphema did not have adequate infrastructure for a novitiate and so the administration decided to have its Novitiate House built at Chabua, a small township by the side of the national highway between Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, under Dibrugarh diocese.

A new building, built under the supervision of Fr Joseph Kizhakeveedu (1992- 1993) for the purpose of Novitiate at Chabua, was completed and blessed on May 23, 1993 by most Rev. Thomas Menamparampilsdb Bishop of Guwahati. He was instrumental in procuring the said land for the novitiate and was a constant source of encouragement. The next batch of students then moved to Chabua with Fr Jose Mundoly continuing to be their Master and Fr Thomas Kollathuvayalil (1993-1996) as the Socius. Years that followed saw the appointment of different Novice Masters and Assistants. Between 2009 and 2011, the novitiate acquired more infrastructural developments under the initiative of then Novice Master and Socius.
