ST FRANCIS DE SALES SCHOOL TENING

SFS school Tening was started at the request of government officials and local leaders of this area. In 1981, a thatched shed was made on a plot of land that wasgiven by the government department in the town. Classes were started withL.K.G and class 1 in the view of upgrading to class IV. A new school building was officially blessed and inaugurated on February 22, 1984. The building was blessed by Most Rev. Abraham sdb, the Bishop of Kohima and inaugurated by MrMeuthongmeseu, ADC, Peren district, at 2.30 pm. In the beginning, the school was run with the help of teachers. After the inauguration of the new school building in 1984, one of the fathers from Peren began to reside at the station.

With the view of upgrading the school and to have more facilities, there was a decision to build a new school in Tening village. The blessing of the new school at Tening village took place on February 12, 1994. It was inaugurated by NeibaNdang, hon’ble Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, and was blessed by Bishop Abraham sdb of Kohima.Subsequently, in 1995 the school was upgraded to class VIII. In 1997, the school obtained permission to conduct classes IX &X from NBSC. Further, in 1997, the Province funded a new school wing comprising of five class rooms cum hall with a stage. It was blessed on November 7, 1997, by Fr Emile Mayoraz, Superior General of the MSFS Congregation and inaugurated on August 8, 1997, on Parents’ Day, by Mrs Lung Chile, the Deputy Inspector of School, Nagaland. In 2001 computer education which was unheard in the area was introduced in the school curriculum and that attracted many students to the school. In 2002 the present spacious football ground was levelled with the technical support of PWD department of Nagaland. By 2003 the school had an enrolment of 497.

In 2020 the school has 320 students and 16 teaching staff. Its spacious playground, a rare feat in such hilly terrains, provides space for football, volleyball and badminton. The school also has a library with number of books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, newspapers, periodicals and magazines.
